Multimodal transport

Sea, air, rail and road combined in one journey, with one contact and one set of documents, optimising time and cost for each shipment.

C.A.S LOGISTICS provides multimodal transport solutions that combine two or more modes in one journey, with a single party responsible from the pick-up point to the delivery point. Instead of dealing separately with each shipping line, airline or haulier, you need only one contract, one contact and one multimodal transport document issued by C.A.S.

Based on the cargo, the route and the schedule, we select and coordinate the component services: sea freight, air freight, rail freight and inland trucking, together with customs brokerage, to balance time, cost and the safety of your shipment.

Service options

  • Sea–road

Ocean freight combined with inland trucking at both ends, the usual set-up for import and export containers.

  • Sea–air

A sea leg to a transhipment hub, then onward by air: faster than sea and cheaper than air all the way.

  • Rail–road

Rail for the long haul, with trucks or container trucks for the first and last miles.

  • Route design per shipment

We compare options on time, cost and risk to choose the combination of modes that fits the cargo and the schedule.

Process

The standard steps of a shipment. The actual flow can vary with the cargo, the route and the delivery terms.

  1. Step 1

    Enquiry

We collect the cargo details, pick-up and delivery points, required timing and delivery terms (Incoterms).

  2. Step 2

    Transport plan

We propose the combination of modes, transhipment points and schedule, with an all-in quote for the whole journey.

  3. Step 3

    Booking each leg

Space is booked with shipping lines, airlines and rail operators and trucks are arranged for each leg, with the legs' schedules matched.

    • Booking confirmation
  4. Step 4

    Documents and customs

We prepare the documents and clear customs at origin or destination; C.A.S issues the multimodal transport document for the whole journey.

    • Multimodal transport document
    • Commercial invoice
    • Packing list
  5. Step 5

    Transport and transhipment

Each leg is carried out, transhipment between vehicles is supervised and issues at the transhipment point are handled.

  6. Step 6

    Tracking and updates

One contact follows the whole journey and keeps you updated on the shipment.

  7. Step 7

    Delivery and close-out

The cargo is delivered at destination, the proof of delivery signed and the documents handed over.
